The Forge de Laguiole workshop opened its doors in 1987.

The project to reinstate the manufacture of Laguiole knives in the village of Laguiole was a dream envisioned by a group of enthusiasts, including local politicians and businesspeople. Today, every stage of the knife-making process takes place in its original location, bringing the craftsmanship of Laguiole knives back to the village.

The design of the manufacturing site was entrusted to renowned French designer Philippe Starck, reflecting the company's philosophy of successfully blending tradition with innovation. Starck's architectural vision incorporates glass and aluminum, featuring an 18-meter-high gleaming blade that soars into the sky above Laguiole, symbolizing the activity and dynamism of the business.

Our expertise in forging these knives is deeply rooted in the spirit of the Aubrac plateau, which serves as our inspiration. From the beginning, Forge de Laguiole has committed to developing its manufacturing skills while respecting traditional craftsmanship. Once a simple knife used locally, the Laguiole knife has now become a cult object and a design reference, embodying the art de vivre and French gastronomy.
